What we do
In June each year the work of over 200 textile designers - graduates of British universities and colleges at both BA and MA levels - is selected and submitted by their tutors.
Each of these portfolios is reviewed and each young designer interviewed. The interviews, held over three weeks, are in tutorial-style and led by Texprint Creative Director Peter Ring-Lefevre. Each day's interview panel comprises different industry experts who generously give their time to take part in this first stage of the Texprint selection process.
Applicants are judged on the standard of their creative work, their training and their ability to make full use of the opportunities offered. Our aim is to mentor each graduate and to promote their creative skills to the industry, media and related organisations that can help their career launch.
The final selection of 24 designers are mentored and showcased at several industry events:
Texprint London is Texprint’s preview presentation, held in London exclusively for Texprint supporters and press – a great opportunity for our sponsors and supporters to enjoy their first view of the designers’ outstanding work. We also invite leading figures in the industry to judge the TEXPRINT® AWARDS for Body, Space, Colour and Pattern. The Lululemon Texprint Award, donated by Lululemon Athletica, will also be judged at Texprint London.
A series of Mentoring Workshops are held during the Texprint London event. These are led by professionals working in industry and are intended to introduce the designers to the best professional practices, preparing them for some of the situations that might arise as they sell their work internationally, or simply to ask advice and direction.
The main Texprint showcase of work is held at Indigo, Paris, the international textile design specialty show, and part of Première Vision Pluriel, which groups Europe's most important fashion fabrics, yarn, textile design and accessories fairs altogether. Here the designers have individual stands on which to exhibit their design collections, meet international buyers and make invaluable contacts.
The Woolmark Texprint Award in support of Campaign for Wool, donated by Woolmark International, will be judged and presented at Indigo/PremièreVision, Paris, in September. To see the Woolmark Texprint Award brochure Be Inspired by Merino Wool click here.
The Texprint Awards Presentation is attended by industry celebrities, press and supporters - and is a great opportunity to promote the talent of British textile designers to an international audience. All 24 new designers benefit from a supported career launch - meeting the right people, at the right places, at the right time.
